The Starfish Story

adapted from The Star Thrower
by Loren Eiseley (1907 - 1977)

Once upon a time, there was a wise man who used to go to the ocean to do his writing. He had a habit of walking on the beach before he began his work.
One day, as he was walking along the shore, he looked down the beach and saw a human figure moving like a dancer. He smiled to himself at the thought of someone who would dance to the day, and so, he walked faster to catch up.
As he got closer, he noticed that the figure was that of a young man, and that what he was doing was not dancing at all. The young man was reaching down to the shore, picking up small objects, and throwing them into the ocean.
He came closer still and called out "Good morning! May I ask what it is that you are doing?"
The young man paused, looked up, and replied "Throwing starfish into the ocean."
"I must ask, then, why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?" asked the somewhat startled wise man.
To this, the young man replied, "The sun is up and the tide is going out. If I don't throw them in, they'll die."
Upon hearing this, the wise man commented, "But, young man, do you not realize that there are miles and miles of beach and there are starfish all along every mile? You can't possibly make a difference!"
At this, the young man bent down, picked up yet another starfish, and threw it into the ocean. As it met the water, he said, "It made a difference for that one."

Welcome to Myrrhlyn’s (merlin) Spirit. My name is Dana and my dog is Mackenzie. He loves being around people as much as I do and smiles at everyone. Occasionally he comes in to help me.

I have been a nationally certified massage therapist for approximately four years. I love my making you feel better and connecting with you. I wanted to become a massage therapist because the human body and mind fascinate me. How the body can heal itself and how the mind can change the way the body reacts to thoughts is amazing. My goal is to help you feel healthier to get the most out of life you possibly can and help you learn how to make yourself feel better everyday.

I graduated from the Denver School of Massage Therapy, which is part of the Utah College of Massage Therapy Family of Schools. I am also a certified infant massage instructor (CIMI®) from the International Association of Infant Massage (IAIM®) which helps you create a bond and better communication with your baby and promote a nurturing touch between you and your baby. I have been trained in anatomy and various other healing modalities such as Swedish Massage, Reflexology, Acupressure, Hot Stone, Salt & Sugar Scrubs, Cranial Sacral Therapy, Trigger Point Therapy, Shiatsu, and Injury Massage (Deep Tissue). I am also learning Chakra Balancing, Gemstone & Crystal Therapy, EFT—Emotional Freedom Technique and I am a certified Reiki Master.

All appointments can be scheduled at Tranquility Salon and Day Spa, 303-432-9772 in Arvada.

*Our Executive Membership has no fees or dues. The only requirement is a one year commitment to come in at least once per month. If you do not make it in at least once your credit card will be charged. There are no hidden fees and you can come in as many times as you like for the discounted pricing. This membership also includes facials, so you can alternate massages and facials if you like. (I only do the massages).

If you don’t want to make the commitment we also have punch cards available. On your 4th visit you receive a 20% discount and on your 7th visit you receive a 50% discount. The punch cards cannot be alternated with facials.
